Books Books Books

A little trip to the wonderful London Zoo lead to an unexpected bit of book shopping. The first book, My Heart is like a Zoo by Micheal Hall. Each animal is made of heart shapes - brilliant. The next two are My Zoo and Papercraft Animals, both by the very talented Ellen Giggenbach - Oh how much fun are we going to have making these in the studio! No kids allowed... well we may do a few with them over the summer.

Rachel Powell

We love all things bold, bright, playful and with a twist of mid century modern, so we were always going to love print maker and designer maker Rachel Powell's work. It's got the lot!

Naoko Horiguchi

Darling Clementine drew our attention to artist Naoko Horiguchi's work about a month ago and we've been meaning to share it with you ever since. Naoko works in paint, collage and rubber stamp prints which you can see more of here. These more illustrative ones are our favourite. Just fantastic!

ISAK - Tingleby

ISAK is a Scandinavian style brand of design gifts and co-ordinated home accessories founded by graphic designer and illustrator Sandra Isaksson. We love their new sweet animation based on the Tingleby range which can be viewed on the ISAK Facebook page. Animated by Lisa Huxstep and music by Henrik Malmgren of goodjobstudios. Just lovely!

Saul Bass

Saul Bass's wonderfully warm illustrations from 'Henri's Walk To Paris' come to mind on this sunny August day. Half a century after it was first published it is now being printed by Rizzoli and is available on Amazon. This was the only children's book that Saul (super hero graphic designer and film maker) illustrated but oh what a visual treat it is. I could eat it!

Eric Carle

In June, the ever inspiring, Eric Carle blogged about the 'Architektur' and 'Violinkonzert' posters he designed before he started to illustrate picture books.

At 20 years old he worked at the Amerika Haus U.S. Information Center in Germany as a poster designer.

I don't know which to be more impressed with, designing these posters at 20 or blogging at over 80? Regardless his blog is well worth a visit, if you haven't already.

Here's hoping Eric posts more of his poster designs. I think I could eat through one on a Monday, two on a Tuesday, three on a Wednesday................. Oh yes!
